Imagine and Discover Diyabubula by Barberyn

More than just a resort, Diyabubula is a place to pause, breathe, and let the beauty of the wild inspire you. Wake up to the sound of birdsong, relax by quiet streams, and end your day under a sky full of stars as fireflies light up the night.

The soul of the spring

Diyabubula means “the bubbling fountain” in Sinhala-named for the freshwater spring that flows through the lush surrounding forest.

Diyabubula invites guests to dwell in this architectural poetry-where reclaimed timber, raw stone, and light live in harmony with the trees in the slow rhythm of the forest.

Over time, Diyabubula has gently revealed what it is meant to be: a sanctuary for slowing down, reflecting, and reconnecting with what truly matters. The rhythm of this place – its quiet forest, flowing water, and living art – naturally guides us toward introspection, silence, and the stirrings of creativity. It has become a space for spiritual pursuits and thoughtful pause, showing us that sometimes the greatest journeys happen within.

Our Story

It is here that Sri Lankan artist, sculptor, and philosopher Laki Senanayake created his personal refuge, a place where human imagination and wild nature meet.

Laki shared this beautiful oasis with us, and he continued to live and work in his minimalist space until he passed away in June 2021.

For five decades, Laki transformed a stretch of humble farmland into a living work of art: a forest, water garden, and an open-air art gallery.

We are integrating Lakis’ abode and studio, with our Art and Jungle Lodge in keeping with Lakis’ wish, so that his legacy on Art, Sculpture and Architecture and biodiversity can be kept alive.

Nature & Sustainability

Living lightly, listening deeply Diyabubula is an ode to sustainable living.

The lodges were built with timber reclaimed from abandoned homes. Solar energy powers most of the retreat. Waste is composted or recycled. The spring water is filtered, but untouched in essence.

The forest is not trimmed—it is revered. Wildlife flourishes, and guests are asked to walk softly, speak gently, and leave no trace but awe.

We welcome artists, seekers, travelers, wanderers and those who seek solitude. Bring a journal, a few books, an openness to silence and spend days without speech, without agenda.
